BenJamin Louis Brody
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, now Brooklyn based, Benjamin Louis Brody is one of the most progressive and multi-faceted musicians in New York City. He is collaborating with visual artists, filmmakers, choreographers, and even the science community.
Ben Brody is best known for creating beautiful walls of sound with ambient textures, combining post-rock and modern minimalism to create a dynamic resonance with their listeners. In 2013 Brody release his debut EP, FL◊W STATE, a solo electric guitar project that was featured on WNYC's program New Sounds Listeners’ Poll, and was ranked among the top 10 best releases of 2013. After teaming up with several NYC musicians, Fl◊w State transformed into a full ensemble including saxes, bass, electric keys, and drums. They've since release two additional records including Breathe In Breathe Out, featuring singer & actress Elvy Yost (ABC's The Catch). In 2015 Brody signed on to compose a three part modern dance piece with MADart Creative called Inner Reaches; exploring how the scientific communities have come to understand our quantum universe. He recently workshopped Part II in collaboration with drummer Ian Chang (Son Lux) using Sensory Percussion, a completely new software that combines the nuance and control of an acoustic drum and the limitless possibilities of digital sound.
As a founding member of New York City’s leading Hip-Hop Brass Band, PitchBlak Brass Band, Brody doubles on French horn and Guitar. Their 2016 performance with legendary wordsmith Pharoahe Monch, part of Ecstatic Music Festival, was described as "Absolutely Incredible," - SOURCE Magazine. They've come to be well known for their monthly residency, The PitchBlak Playlist, at Manhattan Inn located in Greenpoint, BK.
In 2014 Brody was nominated by the ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop faculty to receive the ASCAP Foundation Henry Mancini Music Fellowship. Since then he has worked on several independent films. Also Brody has worked for composers such as Oscar winning composerElliot Goldenthal, Tom Waits, and Philip Glass engraving and organizing scores for future releases.
Aside from his own work, he has collaborated with artists like Snowmine, Grizzly Bears’ Daniel Rossen, Shara Worden, and even comedian Zach Galifianakis.
